The Distressed and Violent Child – why children are violent and how adults can help them

A practical and supportive session that will explore the reasons why children who have had difficult starts in life may struggle with violence, aggression and dysregulation. The focus of the morning will be on practical ways to identify triggers, address violence and tackle the root causes, including compassionate ways to work with children in developing and carrying out strategies, while keeping everyone safe. There will be information on compassion fatigue, secondary trauma and the importance of self care.
This training is relevant to anyone who cares for or supports children who express trauma and distress through violence.
The session will be led by Carly Kingswood and Sally Donovan. The event will take place in a large room with socially distanced seating and good ventilation. Masks will need to be worn by everyone and there will be fresh air breaks.Bring a thick coat, a mask and a sense of adventure.
