Parenting at a distance
May 19 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Parenting and supporting children and young adults who leave home before gaining the skills to live independently.
Outreach worker and former children’s home manager Nicky Doughty and author and parent Sally Donovan will cover reasons why the family home may not be a viable place for young people to live and how to support them during what may be a risky transition. They will cover practical aspects such as benefits and housing and risks of substance misuse and exploitation and how to maintain a parenting presence and offer effective support. There will be an emphasis too on parental wellbeing during what can be a long and risky period of transition.
